St. Catherine’s N.S.

We at St Catherine’s are the proud owners of four Green flags!

Join our Walking Buses on Monday mornings from:

1. Kenley Road

2. Dennehy’s Cross Church

Buses depart at 8.40am sharp.

All welcome!

At St. Catherine’s NS we have developed the Walking Bus initiative in order to promote regular exercise among parents and pupils whilst increasing safety on the school journey and at the school gates. The Walking Bus is fun for pupils as they can meet their friends and walk to school safely with them, and they arrive at school more alert and energetic. Participation in a Walking Bus  also reduces the level of congestion and air pollution caused by cars on the school run and helps participating pupils learn pedestrian skills and road safety.

FAQs

Will my children be safe?

The walking bus is highly visible, well supervised and walking in a group is safer than walking alone.

How is the route chosen?

Our two routes, from Kenley Road and Dennehy’s Cross Church, are very pedestrian friendly and were chosen in conjunction with the local representatives from An Taisce and the Cork City Council.

Does the bus operate in bad weather?

The bus will operate in almost all weather conditions and will only be cancelled if extreme weather conditions occur. Children are expected to wear appropriate clothing to protect them from the elements.

What happens if parents are late?

If parents are late dropping their child(ren) at the starting point the walking bus will not wait. Parents will then be responsible for dropping their child(ren) to school. It is absolutely forbidden to join the bus once it has left the starting point, unless agreed by prior arrangement.
